Infractions are the least serious type of crime in California. They are not punishable by a jail sentence and are mostly punished with a fine. There is no probation resulting from an infraction however one must wait a year before applying to clear the infraction from their record. Infractions can include traffic violations, disturbing the peace and other low level crimes.
